He's been helpful to the group i'm usually trying to get him to do something for (like let us use his name, write a letter to some ambassador, sign on to something, that sort of thing), which is Amnesty International. Congresspersons are helpful (if they're competent, or at least have competent staff) if they can't see how they could lose by it, and may have good will among a group of constituents to gain.
