Article in the special section of the WSJ today, page R21 I believe, mentions ENE in the race for the last mile in the telecommunications war. The article is about dereg in the electric utility world, and how some utes have moved to challenge the bells and cable co's. ENE is mentioned in its partnership with Montana Power and Williams. I wouldn't be surprised to see a rally on those kinds of stories. I am going to look into Montana Power, they were mentioned very favorably. I have been looking at them half-assed for a while, but think its time to take a closer look.
On a different note, Wessex tallied the final vote, and ENE got the okay by some 82+% of the shareholders. From Bloomberg:
Commenting on this development Kenneth L. Lay, Chairman and CEO of Enron, said "We are delighted by the overwelming positive response to our Offer by Wessex's shareholders. We now look forward to develop the company as the centre of excellence for Enron's new international water business and continuing to provide Wessex's customers with high quality water and wastewater services."
...the Offer has become unconditional in all respects.
Should also provide a little upbeat sentiment.
BTW, yes, I do have a DRP for ENE, but also own a lot of shares in my brokerage account. I bought ENE before learning about its Direct Purchase program. I have been buying ENE aggressively over the last year and half through that plan, with a new check sent to First Chicago every time I get the confirm -- two or three purchases per month!
good luck,
