My (admittedly futuristic) view of SANs is that every storage device will have an IP address, and I will be able to access each device ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, whether that storage device exists on my local LAN, or half a world away, via private WAN or the Internet.>>> Just to add some spices into this futuristic view. It would be logical for storage vendors and FC component vendors to take advantage of this new standard when it becomes one because : 1. Storage and FC vendors will sell more equipments because demand will be higher. 2. Big networking companies will be interested to build FC interfaces on their Routers and ATM switches. It would make sense to them then. Time frame for widely adopted by most ? At lease two years if not more. Though development may start soon when the standard becomes a reality. KJ
