George, by the Fed lowering the interest rate for the overnight lending rate, the prime rate will come down. This is different than the bond rates. As you know, the prime rate is the rate corporations pay for loans. This rate affects corporate profits as it lowers the cost of borrowing money. With respect to Japan, the problem isn't tied to interest rates. Its a problem with all the bank loans and the possible failure of the banking institutions. The Japanese consumers have stopped spending their money. Of course, this is affecting our exports to Japan, and therefore our corporate profits.

If the Fed cuts the interest rate, the markets will take-off. I think its well known that the markets wants a rate cut.
