Francis: The second half of the litter samples I obtained from the Show Low supplier is in its second week now. As you will recall the first half was about 5 pounds and was changed after two weeks with two cats using it. One of my sons is testing it and probably waits as long as possible, knowing him. But since that is the time he would change the Fresh Step, we decided to stick with the two weeks for Paws Only. He normally used about 10 pounds of Fresh Step. Half the amount of Paws Only is being used and it lasts the same amount of time with no odor. So it does last twice as long as claimed. Fresh Step retails here for about $4.50 for 10 pounds. I understand Paws Only will be retailed at an average $2.89 per 10 pound bag. One thing noticed by my son that is not currently being claimed by the company, but was a big advantage to him was that the cats scratching in the litter box no longer made noise like the Fresh Step did. They had the litter box upstairs in their bedroom, but moved it downstairs because the cat noise would wake them up. That no longer is a problem --- until the sample runs out and there is none available to buy in Phoenix for a while. He also noticed that he is no longer stepping with his bare feet on litter in the bedroom as before. The cats would track the litter all the way upstairs which they no longer do.

He also did not have any break in period for the cats to switch from one litter to the other. He abrubtly switched and they took right to it. I do not know if that matters or not.

My simple absorption test with a cup of litter showed it absorbed two cups of water so it absorbs twice its volume in fluids. This could have something to do with it lasting twice as long as the clay litter.

The second and last sample test will conclude this Sunday and then it is back to the more expensive less lasting Fresh Step unless I can somehow beg some more from Cashco.

One thing I wanted to try just for fun was to place two identical boxes next to each other - one with Fresh Step and one with Paws Only to see if the cats preferred either. But too late for that. All of the sample is gone.
