gorcon, in general, Datek is slower before 10am than afterbut lately this hasn't really been the case, like it used to be. Although I don't trade much before 10am, when I have (maybe 5 or 6 times in the last 30 days), fills have been very good. I have been getting virtually instantaneous executions on the stocks I trade for the last 30 or so days. These would be almost exclusively DELL, ASND, CSCO, INTC, XYLN, TLAB and CIEN, almost always in 500 shares blocks. Execution in 1-2 seconds and confirmation maybe 1 second later. I now almost always put limit orders at the market, or 1/16 above or below if its moving very fast. Not sure what they have done recently, but the reliability of execution has improved greatly over the last 30 days. I hesitate saying I am 100% confident that they won't have those infamous slow fills any more (I certainly had my share), but another 30 days like the last and I will be the first to sing their praises.
