We tested a system with a front-mounted 2X DVD-ROM drive that's augmented by an internal MPEG-2/AC3 decoder card; you can also get a CD-ROM/floppy disk combo drive that fits in this same bay. This notebook also has 3-D surround sound, provided by ESS Technology's Maestro-2 PCI audio accelerator (which supports hardware wavetable). Headphone, microphone, and line-out jacks--as well as a vol- ume-control thumbwheel--are located on the left side of the machine to ensure easy access.
