You are, quite simply, wrong. The Constitution establishes not only a procedure for impeachment, including certain votes in each house of Congress. It also establishes a minimum STANDARD. If that is not followed, honestly, and with a true effort to understand the framers' intent, the Congress will not be acting Constitutionally.

Nowhere in my post did I state that such a standard does not exist. But even with that standard (which was made purposefully vague, as any Constitutional scholar will tell you) there is plenty of latitude. My post, if you care to read it for the actual content, was intended to remove any indemnity from Congress as for their political motivation for holding impeachment hearings or going to trial in the Senate.

I will state it more clearly. If Congress adheres to the rule of law as stated in the Constitution then the underlying political motives are of no issue. I say this because a.) the founding fathers were not fools and they knew that political pressures are always present in such cases and b.) to think otherwise is just plain stupid.
