Dave,

As it was explained to me, NeXT is a two-layer operating system, the top being the user interface (appplications, icons, etc.), the bottom being the Mach (UNIX based) operating system.

One of NeXT's strengths as a cross-platform OS is the ease by which applications can be written for it. To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing to *preclude* the Be operating system from running underneath a NeXT/MacOs 7.x user interface.

Both Apple and Be realize the importance of avoiding an internecine conflict, I'm sure models of "coopetition" can be developed.
