David -- I've been hoping we could have a discussion here based on a middle ground outlook. My basic position has been that we should be taking reasonable precautions now to insure the least exposure to potential glitches. My concern is that the most vulnerable members of society will be the ones placed most at risk, and that as a civilized society we have an obligation to minimize that exposure.

I can envision any number of moderate disruptions which could prove life threatening to the elderly and others in vulnerable circumstances. These same disruptions could very well have no impact on me directly because of the nature of my pyhsical and geographical circumstances.

I do not want to be sitting around safe and sound in Jan. of 2000 knowing that others are experiencing the consequences of a lack of prepartion by organizations, institutions, and businesses. Let's pay attention to potential risks NOW, do what we reasonable can to minimize them, and hope that as many people as possible enjoy a healthy and prosperous new millenium.
