Good evening Frank. Market started the day off pretty bad as evidenced by S&P futures. I was away over the weekend and got in late last night. I did check the futures and figured, like you, that we would have a bad opening. I did not like the action in Japan and Europe at that time. I did not think that the Clinton tapes would have too much an effect on the markets. I figured that there was not much new news on those tapes. I did watch all of the testimony this morning to see how Mr. Clinton performed. As expected. I know that you are of a diff. opinion but I believe in some of those stories that we were hyped about those outbursts, which did not occur, in order to say later: See, he did alright and therefore take the edge of the testimony itself. If we ever have to go to court, we know now how to dodge. I never knew how many definitions there are in things. gg. No and Yes are out. Long self serving statements are in. gg.

I guess Japan, Latin America and Clinton drove the markets down orig. but as soon as there came word from Brazil that they expected our interest rate to be cut end of this month, the market turned around. And no big news with the tapes helped also. I guess Greenspan and Rubin must have related better to Brazil than to us since they feel after the talks with them that the rate will be cut. Let's hope so.

Our techs and Pharmas did pretty well. Asian markets are expected to do better on the heels of our market upturn.

Sonny
