I agree that much is learned from making DRAMs, but if NEC, Hitachi, or IBM quit making memory they wouldn't be the first. INTC left making memory behind, and they still seem to be able to produce leading edge semiconductors. <VBG>

Actually I think semi production is getting more specialized all the time. Thus things that you do for memory are very different than what you do for microprocessors, so this is less of an issue than it used to be.
