John, Just a couple of comments on what you wrote. To the best of my knowledge CBS did not say that 3rd qtr earnings would beat estimates. If you refer to the following excerpt, Mel said they would be better than last year. Well, last year they lost three cents. Estimates for this year are for .00 so they could still miss estimates and be better than last year. For fourth quarter, Mel said it would be 'a lot better' than third quarter. I don't know how much better, but Zack's has estimates of six cents. Excerpt from biz.yahoo.com CBS Corp (NYSE:CBS - news) President Mel Karmazin said Wednesday that he expected the company's third-quarter results to exceed year-ago levels, while fourth-quarter results would be ''a lot better'' than the third quarter.
