The Devil and Bill Clinton

Daniel Webster was a New England lawyer and statesmen with legendary oratorical skills. American author Stephen Vincent Ben‚t immortalized Webster in his famous short story, The Devil and Daniel Webster.

In the tale, Webster has to win back his own soul by tricking the ultimate trickster, the devil. Ultimately, Webster succeeds in defeating the devil and saving his soul in a mock trial.

Listening to excerpts of Clinton's August 17th grand jury I'm reminded of this story. I could just imagine Clinton matching wits with the devil:

Devil: Do you recall when you sold your soul to me in exchange for the presidency in 1992?

Clinton: I don't recall. I made a lot of deals with you before and I can't remember this specific one.

Devil: But you did sell me your soul didn't you?

Clinton: It depends upon what the word sell means. If sell means sell, that's one thing. If it means sail like sail a boat, that is a completely true statement.

Devil: I meant sell.

Clinton: My interpretation was that you meant sail.

After a few hours of that crap, even the devil would have to concede.
