PixStream Joins Newbridge Affiliate Program
KANATA, ONTARIO--New Newbridge Affiliate's Solutions Enable
Service Providers to Introduce Leading-Edge Video Applications
Newbridge Networks today announced that PixStream Incorporated is
the newest member of the family of Newbridge(r) Affiliate
companies. Founded in 1996, the Waterloo Ontario-based company
develops, manufactures and markets hardware and software products
that enable network service providers and enterprises to reliably
distribute and manage digital video. Using PixStream systems, high
quality video and audio can be transported more efficiently over
broadband networks, optimizing bandwidth and enabling customers
to introduce leading-edge video services and applications.
Interfacing directly with the network infrastructure, PixStream's
products and management tools enable television broadcasters to
take full advantage of the enhanced reliability and multi-service
capabilities of a telecommunications broadband data network
infrastructure.

PixStream systems will complement the Newbridge broadband network
solutions, enabling seamless integration with the Newbridge
service management system. The company will bring to Newbridge
expertise in television broadcast and Motion Picture Expert Group
(MPEG-2)-standard compression technology. MPEG-2 is the dominant
global compression standard for the transport of digital video
through broadband infrastructures. More than 1,500 U.S. television
stations have been mandated by the Federal Communications
Committee (FCC), the U.S. television regulatory authority, to move
towards digital transmission standards over the next five years.
Globally, other countries have also committed to converting to the
digital distribution of television signals through MPEG-2. This is
expected to create a multi-billion dollar annual market worldwide
within the next 10 years.
