They talk about Ascend wanting to buy Ciena should they plan to stay indepenent as they need the DWDM piece in their puzzle. I sent their CTO a packet containing the HLIT Annual report and PR on their DWDM a couple of months ago. I asked her why they don't want to pick up a cheap company like this and get a great lead into fiber optics and the growing cable market. Sure would be a gas if they decided to buy HLIT. I think it makes sense, but Ascend is really gearing toward xDSL as the build out for 99. They didn't seem to think the CATV market was too worthy of their attention. Ascend does have some business in the group though. Regards, Mark
