OTTAWA, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ - Nortel (Northern Telecom) (NYSE: NT/TSE: NTL), today announced that it is working with Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) to better address the intensifying Internet service providers' needs of delivering mission-critical Internet solutions to their subscribers. ''In today's dynamic marketplace, one must be ready with the right services at the right time in order to win. ''Time-to-revenue is accelerated with these three exciting and innovative offerings developed by Nortel for business and residential subscribers, on Compaq's reliable Window's NT server-based ProLiant 800 platform.''
This collaboration will combine Nortel's Internet Telephony applications and Compaq's platform integration and support teams to deliver revenue-generating, turn-key solutions to service providers. This web 'sales tool' bridges the Internet and the public switched telephone network, allowing users to establish an immediate voice connection with a business by simply clicking an icon on the company's Web page. Nortel Internet Call Waiting notifies subscribers of incoming calls through a pop-up window on their computer while in an Internet session and allows them to accept or redirect the call. Internet Conferencing allows service providers to offer small and medium-size business customers an easy-to-use, affordable Internet-based conferencing solution that integrates multi-point, full-duplex, audio conferencing and real-time data collaboration.
