Sorry about the delayed response to this ... I just came back from my vacation.

I am afraid that this is not correct in all cases. Usually if you receive an infected file as an attachment, it will receive some special action to open. However, there are at least two situations where virus code will be activated automatically by just reading the message.

The problem is that most viruses that spread through E-mail are not sent deliberately - someone you know may have been infected, and sends you an infected Word document.
