Darleen: My parents told me many such stories about the depression days. It sure scarred them for life. Hated to take a mortgage to buy a house, a loan to buy a car. Feared being in debt, always had a garden. In my advancing years the thoughts of tilling the soil on the Florida home I will inherit comfort me.

I was on the leading edge of the post WW2 baby boom, being born during the war as my father was a civilian chemist/physicist working for US Navy. Hence, I was in position to enjoy the boom years, as a Wall Streeter, with all the benes. Owned grand homes, my own airplanes, Europe's best cars - lived extremely well !

Total turn-about. I' so concerned about the deflation risks I've gone strictly cash, like my forebearers. I've talked with too many old Florida crackers who couldn't even feed the cats, back then, if the fish didn't bite.
