jaskay,>>> Clinton may not be above the law, but he was asked about a consensual sexual act,<<<

Let's be a little more precise about this. He was originally asked about non consensual sex (Paula Jones) - In a sexual harassment suite. He lied about consensual sex with Jennifer Flowers and Monica Lewinsky. He apologised only after they told him there was forensic evidence (forensic - as in his DNA on a stained dress). He had sex in the work place (Oval Office) with an Intern his daughter's age while on official business (talking to a congressman on the phone about sending young men to war). He lied to the American people and he lied to the grand jury. He may have lied about tampering with a witness (Betty Currie - you be the judge) and he may have lied about the Kathleen Willey incident (the judiciary committee may decide on this one - there may be a pattern of unlawful behavior).

Admittedly, many macho young men throughout the world may see nothing wrong with these actions. In fact, many find it amusing and aspire to emulate these actions.

But, the United States of America is a civilized nation - and there are laws that try to protect defenseless, poor, uneducated, and powerless citizens from the abuse of power from important officials.

These are unimaginable concepts in some third world countries.

>>>I think most wish this matter would just go away, but I fear that these two factions are destined to lay waste to each other, and in the process, to leave the world without US leadership in difficult economic times.<<<

Many will agree with you - but there will also be some who believe that there could be no greater service that the United States could do than to set standards of behavior and be a role model for developing and struggling countries to emulate.

IMO, if people could behave properly, and treat each other fairly, then everything else will fall into place nicely - including economic order.
