I went to an interesting luncheon today at the Calgary Convention Center. It was all about the diamond finds around the world and those in Saskatchewan and Alberta. The speaker was a Mr. Lackie who was formerly with the Geological Survey and is now with Wabscana in Calgary. The interesting part was the river connection to the Alberta Diamonds. The alluvial or placer deposits. In these deposits the diamonds can be up to 85% gem quality since they have been carried down river and settled in gravel areas. In South Africa there is some that have travelled well over 1000 km. What I found very interesting was that these deposits would be down stream from Ashton -and that the Ashton field drained over the Legend block for several million years.

Other interesting points were that clusters of pipes are usually grouped in areas of less than 40 km. JP
