Les, this is all I've seen on Rambus, so far:
"EDO DRAM requires a slightly different management scheme from the other
alternatives, but is supported by Intel's Triton chip set. It's still
relatively rare, but where it's been implemented, the combination of
synchronous-burst SRAM and EDO DRAM has proven noticeably faster than
standard SRAM/DRAM designs in vendors' top-of-the-line PC's. There are
other possibilities as well. Rambus, Inc., for example, has proposed
RDRAM, which uses its own proprietary RAM bus channel rather than a
standard memory bus. It's reportedly fast enough to support
Pentium-level bus speeds, but implementing it requires a significant
