It seems your optimisim has alot of EGG NOG and / or PIXIE DUST.
Those DATAQUEST estimates are very aggressive to begin with when you start looking at the current cost barrier for ADSL technology -
Jennifer Tyrell, vice president of marketing at Aware, says: "1997 will be the year that ADSL becomes a viable commercial service, available in a significant number of areas.Initial costs may be higher, but the target price ranges for ADSL will need to approximate $300 to $600 for modems and $50 to $75 for monthly line charges." She adds that once the cost of ADSL drops to these levels, demand and availability for this technology will simultaneously mushroom by the beginning of 1998.
There are alot of public and private companies working to lower ADSL cost structures and they will get there. Then the Teleco's & ISP's will continue to complain about Bandwidth problems and charge extra for ADSL users because of the demands on the network. Will go back to tier pricing with ADSL users paying higher rates.
Expect BANDWIDTH Problems with the original DATAQUEST estimate. Imagine 4X or 13 Million Lines pulling Millions and Millions of bps.
I'll use the Dataquest numbers for my planning purpose. 1996 made good money trading WSTL and great money trading PAIR. Currently in AWRE at 9 5/8.
We need to keep our feet on the ground and make the right investment decisions based on facts and rules.
