In Jorma Ollila we trust. The comment on 3Q was typically cautious - he makes Alan Greenspan look like Howard Stern. But between the lines you could read a very bullish sentiment. He said:

"Strong market development in 1998 has re-enforced our confidence in the outlook for the 3rd quarter and has, again, resulted in an upward revision of our long-term mobile subscriber estimates."

I would translate this Ollila-speak to American vernicular as "Fuckin'-A!". Earlier Nokia has commented that the outlook on 3Q hasn't changed from what it was during 2Q. And after the 70% profit growth of 2Q Nokia said that the next quarter was expected to be similar. Noka bounded up 7% in Helsinki as a response.

All is not quiet on Western front - Dagens Nyheter rips into Ericsson. Ericsson handsets are shutting thmeselves off spontaneously. "- Jag ljuger inte om jag s„ger att 7 av 10 Ericssontelefoner har haft problem." - I'm not lying when I say that 70% of Ericsson phones have this problem, says one retailer. "-K”p inte Ericsson, det blir mycket problem." - Don't buy Ericsson, you only get trouble, says another. These are Swedish comments as reported by a Swedish newspaper.
