the fact that Earl 'the Pearl" Mason owns almost NO STOCK does not say much about CPQ's top finance guy's confidence in his own company
I have heard that Earl Mason has over a million ESO shares, so he has a pretty large stake in the future success of CPQ. BTW many of those were granted at a strike price higher than current price, if rumors are to be believed. Remember that ESO does not show up on filings, although grants to key executives are often announced as a part of shareholder's meetings.
