You are under-rating the variety and numbers of groups I was associated with. Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Washington D.C., Michigan, Virginia, Philadelphia, Colorada; many different organizations; Promise Keepers, Free Evangelical, Christian Coalition, Focus on the Family; but many many individual churches all around the country. I saw the same beliefs, the same practives, the same bias in all of them. Actually, to start off with the assumption that the Bible is the absolute and LITERAL truth when there are so many different translations of the book to begin with and it is an incomplete record since the translations are known to be inaccurate without material to fill in questionable areas; that alone is pretty radical a position just to start with. They don't leave it there; though; a theology that is pervasive is layer on top of that and all over the country it keeps ending up the same theology and since I was with the groups that spread that theology; it is no wonder. |
