I think several conditions must be met (supposing you have no domain server running):
1. the user on the client machine must have an account on the client machine
2. the 'logon to windows nt domain' must be disabled on the client machine
3. you must create a user account on your nt server with the same user name like the one on the client machine. I'm using the 'default password' here with all checkboxes in the 'user properties' panel unchecked except for the 'password never expires' one. No special priviliges necessary.

Works for me...I guess I haven't done anything else.
