Gary: there was an interesting article the other day in one of the biz rags regarding the very same issue you are talking about,it was posted here on the thread by the way,I think it was from NY Times biz section.

Here is the deal,for one thing you can already buy a device from WebTV for surfing the net via the TV.It costs $199.00 and 19.95 monthly fee and if one needs some sort printing device it costs another 50 bucks.I am sure there is a market for it but don't know how successful it will be considering one can get a low-end PC for less than $500.00 which will do heck of a lot more than WebTv.

As you may already know Philips NV is heavily into making implements of this sort and I belive they were the ones who came up with WebTv.Now the article I mentioned earlier had a conversation with one of the big guys from Philips and he said:-

Watching TV is a passive activity where as using the PC and the Net is a very active avocation and he wasn't quite sure whether people will flock to devices such as WebTv instead of a PC.So draw your own conclusions to suit your taste and thinking while we are getting riiiiiiiiiiiiiicccccch over here.

There was also an article which was titled: 'NC is the PC',NC of course as envisioned by our friend Mr.Oracle as you may recall.This article was also posted here on the thread to counter another article from the Economist who had somewhat of a similar view as yours.
