If the person is my co-worker, or my neighbor; I deal with them on an individual basis based on my personal experience of that person. When you mix religion with politics as the Republican's have and you deal with polls and with voting blocks; I deal in generalities because they are more effective in assessing the true nature of the situation. I factor in my personal experiences to understand the generalities better, but on a macro scale as in election; generalities must be used to grasp what you are dealing with. You generalize to manage the large amount to data. To argue that isn't smart is just some idealism.
