This is definitely the first of many! Although its not one of the big three, Maxtor definitely does have market presence and from my visits to many local and national computer stores, has considerable shelf space. Maxtor obviously got the sweat heart deal for being the first. As has been discussed previously, the hard drive industry is one in which all players react to any innovations in the industry for fear that they be left behind. This is definitely an innovation which the industry will adopt as Marc Robbins so elequently stated. I would not be surprised if in the following two weeks that Ampex is closed for operations, we hear about additional contracts for KM. This quiet time not only for Ampex but for the market in general could be very productive in terms of the finalization of negotiations. My company also closes for the holidays; so I can now leave in peace with this great gift Ampex has provided to all of us. 1997 will definitely be a banner year for AXC!!
