With the high yield bond markets effectively closed, AMZN's only access to cash will be to sell more stock into the market. It currently has 300,000,000 authorized shares it can place - only 49M of which have currently been issued. By the end of the year, I would bet that this number will reach 100M and the float will be around 40-50M shares. Then, sadly this will not be the trading stock it is now.

OT - Fed rate cuts:

This excitement over a Fed rate cut will soon fade as well. Frankly, I found it rather ridiculous that this move is causing such a stir. Market rates already price in 1/2-1 full point of rate cuts by the Fed. This is already in the markets - the Fed will only cut by 1/4 if it does anything this time.

Besides, what's so wonderful about an imploding world economy that forces the Fed to cut rates because the US will get hit hard by it in the coming months. Sounds like I hear a real worry about the "r" word - recession.

Yeah, lower rates make future profits more valuable, allowing PE multiples to expand. But you need the "E" to get a PE and with things just starting to go bad, those "E"s are going to shrink. Greenspan said the global problems are bad enough to hold back the threat of inflation - that means no pricing power - that means falling profits.

Another thought - reduce our rates, weakens the dollar - makes all those imports a little more expensive - doesn't help all those countries trying to export their way out of trouble.

Just so much nonsense. It's like lemmings - rate cuts are good - buy stocks - no thinking just a reflex. The Dow will be around 7000 within the next couple months..........
