Michelle, why do you bother to ask "why does it bother the family values people when single women want to have children", when you're not interested in responding or commenting on the answer?

Dwight that is not true. You are on late at night and Im on during the day and sometimes at night - thats the problem. In order for me to be a superb caretaker for my cat I have to go to bed at 10pm according to PETA guidelines for cat ownership.

It's just that some people hold the quaint idea that it is in the children's desires and to their benefit that when possible, they have both a Mom and a Dad. Believe it or not. Odd, huh? Did you have a Dad, Michelle? My sisters do, and I can't overstate the value they place on him.

Well Dwight first of all yes I had a dad. Ok thats done. But what is interesting to me here is that this presence of a father in whatever capacity available seems to rate so heavily with the family values crowd. This is one thing I AM curious about. Is it just the fact that there is testosterone in the household, or what? Because there are lots of attributes and values in a parent (either parent) that are preferable for children thats for sure. And like all issues of a personal nature, its hard to paint things with a broad brush as the RR tends to do imo.

Take for example, a normal child being raised by retarded parents. Is that acceptable to the RR if there is a father there? Because many would argue that a child will suffer in that climate. If you were going to place a child for adoption in a 2-parent household of ex-felons vs. a 1 parent wealthy woman executive which would you choose? Or for example a father is abusive, is it then also preferable to have him around vs. non?

And as you know there a plenty of tremendous individuals that came from broken homes etc.

Personally I think these issues are so complex and individualized that its impossible to paint "good parents" with such a broad brush as the RR tends to do. Better for the RR to say that everybody has the potential to be a good parent, or parents, and support some children first legislation, and leave it at that imo.

Michelle
