15 years IBM 286 costed more than $10K a unit and it appealed only to the affluent market and few could afford it. Today just about everyone has a PC because it is cheap. Companies such as CPQ, DELL, GTW, HP, etc. MADE BILLIONS OF PROFITS just selling cheap IBM clones. The masses is where money to be made. Intel made BILLIONS just selling cheap CPUs (cheap compared to SUNW, MIPS, etc.). You have forgotten the history of PCs.

That is why they will come out with the Pentium-300MHz MMX mobile next year. This is a smart move to counterattack AMD move but it will kill PII mobile line.
