Ltd. . Japan Telecom in January had chosen Ciena products that increase the capacity of fiber optic networks. Japan Telecom has now selected a more powerful version. Shipments of the new product has already begun and installation is expected to begin during the fourth quarter of 1998. ''The explosive growth in data services has made it increasingly important for emerging and competitive carriers like Japan Telecom to build in future network scalability today,'' said Gary Smith, Ciena's vice president of global sales. ''Ciena's MultiWave Sentry 4000 enables service providers to add capacity where and when their networks require it - efficiently and economically,'' Smith said. Ciena's ill-fated merger with Tellabs Inc. (Nasdaq:TLAB - news) fell apart earlier this month. Shares of Ciena added 1-11/16 to 12-11/6 in heavy afternoon trading.<<<<< Doesn't CSCO have a good relationship with Japan Telecom??? If yes, any chance of the CIEN/Japan Telecom deal being brokered by CSCO??? VM
