Yousef, Merrill's Vice Chairman had an interesting quote in today's WSJ:

The do-it-yourself model of investing, centered on Internet trading, should be regarded as a serious threat to Americans' financial lives. This approach to financial decision-making doesn't serve clients well and it's a business model that won't deliver lasting value.

I'm glad Mr. Steffens is looking out for my well-being.

I feel compelled to return the favor:

The swing-for-the-fence-and-hope-you-don't-strike-out model of securities analysis, embodied in Merrill Lynch semiconductor analyst Thomas P. Kurlak, should be regarded as a serious threat to investor patience. This approach to professional responsibility doesn't serve the investing public well and it's a research model that will continue to deliver technology underwriting to Merrill's competitors.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if a few people at Merrill agreed with that statement <g>

Good trading,

Tom
