The whole issue of allowing unfettered depiction of behavior we all deplore, without an obvious and pervasive tone of disapproval and sense that proportionate punishment is coming, is most troubling.

Yet it occurs all the time in all sorts of media these days. Goodfellas was a very good example, among movies that are relatively high brow even. Some comeupance at the end, but the whole move is a glorification of the mid level mafia lifestyle. Especially I think from the point of view of a poor and casting about young man.

An interesting movie, but terribly damaging to partly formed young minds, esp. those at risk, to my mind.

This is pervasive these days. All the drug gang movies. On and on.

It's very hard to know what to do. I haven't figured it out. I instinctively believe that sort of thing, all the gang movies, casual violence without consequence, and the like -- is much more likely to lead to emulation than most pornography. Which tends perhaps to serve more as an autoerotic outlet for adolescents and young males, especially. I don't know. It's my feeling.
