I received this e-mail this morning from Datek. They are forcing me to cover ALTIF. This is not a margin call, I have plenty of $ in my account and am in the green with ALTIF. Can anyone explain why they can force me to cover? The shares were available to borrow when I shorted them! I am concerned that they could do this to me on other short positions at inopportune times! I have called them, but they only say that another broker needs the shares back. My tough luck.

Dear Mr. Hibbs:

We are sending you this e-mail in regards to your short position of ALTIF. This security is not available to be borrowed and therefore must be covered by Friday, Sept. 25th at 12:00 noon EST. You may either deliver the shares, buy them in yourself or we will buy it back in at the current market price. If you have any question please call us immediately at 1-888-GO-DATEK.
Sincerely,
