Rat,

One .25 rate decrease will not do much at all, but a series of .25 rate decrease may help, but that will also depend on really how fast the international markets recover.

These currency matters never are resolved overnight. If I understand it correctly, the JAPAN recovery program is now a political issue. The rich who would have alot to lose if their banks were allowed to fail, so Im sure they are not going to give up that easy, and they are pretty powerful people. I would also pressume that would be the same in all the countries with similar problems.

If I had to guess, I feel that the full impact of the worlds economic problems will come to a climax within 6-12 months - I dont believe its here yet, not to say it will get alot worse but just that the full impact and understanding of its scope will still take more time. As for a recovery, Im only guessing 1-3 years for the recovery after the climax.

I do believe that the U.S. has one of the best monetary/fiscal systems in the world and feel confident that the negative effects of these international problems will be controlled to some extent. The U.S. will still get hurt, but not as bad as others.
