Francis : Of the companies on that list, AAGIY and AU are virtually identical. AU, of course, has a much bigger share capital.

ANGLY is the major shareholder in both. Although not a true gold play, because of its control over the others is regarded, by the market, as a gold play.

GLDFY is the other major SAf gold operation. It is a new company formed from the higher grade old Goldfields and Gencor mines, particularly Beatrix and Kloof.

It and AU will shortly take over DRFNY which used to be the Goldfields flagship but Anglo had a big shareholding so they will cut it up and share the spoils. I'm not sure physically or just on paper.

SGOLY is in the Goldfields' stable but because it is a low grade, short-life operation it didn't participate in the formation of the new GLDFY.

DROOY and HGMCY are apparently well known, and well punted, in the US.

I'm not mentioning RANGY (wonder why?!)

ASA, which trades only in the US, could now be regarded, because of all the mergers, as a mixture of AU and GLDFY.

There are some other SAF gold mines quoted on the JSE but they are not on this list -- Randfontein, Western Areas, Avgold, Dagga, Kalahari.
