Ralph,
Thanks for the well spoken and extremely long paragraph. Despite some of the prattle on the thread about me being JD in disguise, it's untrue. I have in fact lost (on paper) a good bit of money in the last few months. I might ask a few questions though...
Is there any reason that you only singled out the losing stocks JD has recommended recently? Obviously, it makes you argument much more impressive if you can ignore the CCI, CCR, SEIC, STD, ERICY, AHO, AKZOY, GLX, NSRGY, NVTSY and other stocks that have doubled or tripled or more. Was this an intentional oversight, or did you just pick all of the bad stocks?
When you subscribed to the IW newsletter, what did you think you were getting for your money? Word to the wise, $200-$300 per annum doesn't get a lot of handholding. The service you've been getting was an identification of good stock possibilities, not a "balanced account", nor is it a risk adjusted mutual fund. JD has also been very astute on the directions of the US economy, although he (along with many) underestimated the impact of the Asian flu. Along those lines, if you don't have the savy to know how much of your funds to invest wisely, or how to diversify within a stock portfolio, you should call vanguard up and buy their S&P 500 index fund.
I've not posted on here for a while, because I got sick of all the short-term bitching, moaning, and whining. Listen, the value of my portfolio has taken a huge beating lately, but A) I chose to buy all of those stocks, and B) since I'm a long term investor, this too shall pass. Memo to all of the daytraders... you bought the wrong advice.
What really cracks me up though are all the "Yeah, I cancelled my subscription, but I still call in to the hotline..." messages. If you don't think the message is any good, why are you listening to it? Don't bother coming back with the "I want to do the opposite of what he says..." baloney... JD like anyone else is entitled to a few mistakes.
And for all the "he never sells any stocks" enthusiasts, what about AKZOY? What about MGA? What about IAD? What about SHBZ? All sold with gains, recently.
Bottom line, stop trying to emulate our commander-in-chief and blaming everyone but yourselves. JD has identified more winners than losers for all of us, and the final decisions on what to buy and what not to buy fall in our own laps. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen and go sit at the card table with the other kiddies.
