Geoff, reading between your lines I can see that you are sure that nothing like a McCain bill will ever come up again? Are you sure about it? I think the same topic will come up next spring.

Nevertheless, I forgot about the price hike after a settlement. This should provide rather stable earnings. On the long run I think that a price hike can improve profit margins. If a pack of cigs costs a few dollars then who cares about 10 or 20 cents more or less?
It is the opposite asian effect of the semiconductor industry.
Every computer builder should be glad that prices are falling for the devices, but they are not because at the same time margins are shrinking.
When the price shock vanishes and people get used to pay a high price for cigs then earnings could improve.
