Gary << CHPS developed technology in a market where INTC already has a stranglehold. COMS is in a market that INTC is only a player in and by no means has even market leadership let alone a monopoloy. With COMS they'll have market leadership - but still far from a monopoloy - in NICS and at the same time expand their business more into networking. These products have nothing to do with thier core chip business which is the only business the DOJ is looking at as a monopoloy position. >> Not true. CHPS made controllers (chips) for the portable graphics market for displays. They were the leader in this (45% mkt share at time) and CHPS competed with people like Neomagic, SIII, and Trident. INTC was NO where to be found in this specific market/business. Once it became more clear that this functionality would in time move over to the CPU, INTC wanted to get in a presence in this world with market share and the fact that CHPS owned the exclusive rights on 3D with Intel working with Real 3D (division on Lockheed) for the Portable market (Intel had them for desktop), I believe Intel just hedged their bets. As for COMS, I think that it is ridiculous to assume that IF Intel said they would go after COMS, that the DOJ wouldn't be there big time. all imho pigboy
