Jim,

Some of these losses occurred overseas with the banks. Do the conspiracists only drive the markets down? Are there no good fundamental reasons for the markets to head down? Is it just remotely possible that a slowdown is looming?

What about all the crashes overseas -- are all those countries economies fundamentally sound -- just being wrecked by short-sellers?

C'mon, crooks work both sides of the street. Our market is overvalued on many fundamental bases: earnings, dividends, price to sales -- you name it. I'll grant you there are crooks, but they all aren't out to crash our markets. More money is to be made whipping them around this way and that.

Perhaps we have some crooks propping them as well? I certainly think so. We are way above fair value given prospects a year out. Where is growth going to come from to support these prices. Not Asia. Not Latin America. Not Europe. USA? People are up to their eyeballs in credit now because of the agressive tactics of the banks and the low rates.

FWIW: UBS was one of the big losers -- a Swiss bank.
