In the past, that has been indeed the case. But right here right now, I would be leery of calling a company with a $200million a year scientific research centre (on top of regular R&D) an imitator... The Microsoft research center is for finding better ways to steal competitors' technology and adopt it as their own, using the latest high tech spy technology. Just kidding. I hope they do crack the speech recognition thing though, that'll be really spiff when true, intelligent voice recognition becomes a part of everyday computer use (if you want to use it).
