If I may horn in late -
The way I read it, Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky was in poor taste but not a hardcore leadership issue. Score it a ball.
Starr and the Congressional Republicans were in a blood frenzy over the Starr Report and the Clinton tape. The public release (and the wide dissemination of prurient material) was in poor taste. Ball for the offense.
What swings my vote is that Mr. Clinton lied under oath (this one is open and shut) (Steeee-rike one) and is under suspicion of suborning perjury. (Steeee -rike two) Thus:
Home: 1 ball, 2 strikes
Visitors 1 ball
The strike(s) is (are) what matters to me. Impeach? I'll let Congress decide that; it's an ugly job and it ain't mine, thank God. Imho the "character" issue is peripheral.
But I do think there is enough there to make a Presidential resignation a pretty good idea.

I've heard the argument presented that Bill is being prosecuted for a matter that should not have been dragged through the public forum. If I remember, the snag on which all this unraveled is the Tripp tape. This was legally obtained - thus the argument of illegal or improper seizure is void (imho).
I don't think either side is handling this graciously or even honorably. But the one salient feature of this thing (in my eyes) is that Mr. Clinton lied under oath (doing Paula Jones a disservice in the process). This is *bad* and I feel it is bad enough to disqualify him from public office. I certainly do not feel like giving a stubborn liar any slack.
A shame he won't summon the integrity to resign. A surprise - no.
