<<I've seen the printed remarks from Chambers and they made it clear that there are no merger talks underway. CSCO may become interested, or make an offer, (or someone else may) but let's stop pretending something is imminent.>>

Chambers job is to downplay an acquisition. Show me on case where Chambers went to the press or CNBC before they acquired a company. Show me one!! The fact is that another company may want CIEN not just CSCO.

Number two. I never set a timeframe...but allow me to go on record. LU is free to offer in October. So i say this is a "done deal" within 30 days.

<<FYI $1 B is not small (maybe compared to CSCO, but not compared to most CSCO acquisitions.) Chambers said they have problems, they would not provide big wins in the short term, and he implied they might not be strategic for the long term.>>

Read all you can about whose CSCO's new competitors are..do a search. LU,NT & Alcatel are the new competitors in data netwroking. The game is much different. ALl these companies have deep pockets and requires that CSCO acquire companies that can position themselve's to win. Please read..you will see.

<<No one has put forth a case that CSCO is better off owning CIEN than partnering with CIEN. No one is trying to spread FUD, but how 'bout we take a realistic view of the situation.>>

Allow me to paint a picture. If LU has networking switches with DWM and CSCO does not...who wins in the market? Why do you see Ascend partner with Pirelli lately? Simple, all networking companies need this as a newtworking interface and it's NOT easy. This is why TLAB wanted to incorporate CIEN DWM into their product line. This is all very real.

I hope this helps.
