Actually the number is right in line with estimates.

They only reported US shipments in this article. I estimate the world-wide market is roughly twice the US market so this implies about 12-13M notebooks per year for this year. I used an estimate of 10M for laptops in this post from July 1.

There are interesting comments in the EBN article you linked, regarding new panel displays that eat more power. One of the risk factors for this stock, is that portable computer manufacturers are reducing their power needs by smarter design. I've been using the assumption, that designers will use all available power, and then even more power, if more becomes available. Sort of the way memory and MPUs have had their increased capability eaten up by designers. I'm glad to see there are customer needs(brighter screens) that are better met if more power becomes available. And longer battery life is still an important issue with customers. These factors will probably still drive customers to pay up for larger capacity batteries.
