IMHO that the Intel announcement addresses a much broader security and encription/decription function than the WAVE system. There are certainly some overlaps, but there are also certain apparent non-included functions (metering) which WAVE provides and which are not of apparent primary concern in INTEL's remarks.

IMHO that the INTEL announcement refers to an implementation with which WAVE must ultimately make itself compatible - since it will set the encription standards for both e-commerce and other data security areas.

IMHO that the Intel announcement is not their first opening of the door that ultimately says they have decided to incorporate WAVE into their basic on-board chipset - as others have pointed out, they don't generally work that way; they develop their own implementations and know they can get the market to accept them.

I don't believe that the INTEL announcement is a reason for either jubilation or depression at this point.

On the one hand it does indicate the continued concern with security-related issues.

The thing that is a bit worrisome, though, is that INTEL is talking about an additional chip that will become part of the standard PC chipset. With the WAVE chip competing for chip-space, and both being "security-related" implementations that specifically add chips to the board, it may make it a bit harder for WAVX to convince OEM's to make available scarce space to put in the WAVE chip as well as the INTEL chip (even though they apparently are not redundant).

Just my opinion.
