Mr. K, I guess it's time to declare this thread officially dead. We've gotten a bit legalistic here, haven't we. I find a certain irony in arguing the unknowable with mrknowitall, but so it goes. Personally, the unknowability of a candidate's current opinion on a pressing matter seems somewhat at odds with the ideal of an informed electorate, but that's life. Maybe Goedel speaks to this.

For anybody else reading, a dubious proposition at this point, in the absence of any clear statement from congressional candidates on this, I'd suggest that a reasonable proxy for a candidate's position here would be party affiliation. And I certainly wouldn't say that's the only thing to look at this election, either the impeachment issue or party affiliation, but the issue is likely to take up a lot of time next year. It all depends how you like your political theater, I guess.
