>>This is MY rumor. How about Intel buys 3com and keep the Nics/Modem/Hubs business and sell the high-end corebuilder stuff to Lucent. Or vice-versa.<<

I bet you it's been thought about. I wonder if there's been
any similar type breakups. DEC comes to mind with part going
to CPQ and another part going to Cabletron (I think).

But, I really believe that Eric B. has his "vision" and does
not want to sell the company at all. Also, I believe that
there are enough people supporting him. So, I doubt it
will happen.

I read the interview with him on yesterday's post by Moonray.
I found it very instructive. In there, he laid out some
definite alliances and partnerships that we will see very
soon. When I get time, I will try and make a digest of things
that we need to be watching for and expecting in the near future.

To give an example, Microsoft's NT operating system will
feature 3Com as a big part in it. It's one way in which
MSFT can ease into the enterprise systems, which is it's main
deficulty. 3Com has more enterprise contacts, I think, and
they are growing rapiidly because of the corebuilder switch
they've recently come out with.
